Mayta Cápac (Quechua Mayta Qhapaq Inka) was the fourth Sapa Inca of the Kingdom of Cuzco (beginning around 1290 CE) and a member of the Hurin dynasty.
There are some myths about him. For example, it is said that his mother bore him within three months. It is also said that he was extremely strong and had all of his teeth at birth. It is also said that he also went around and beat all of the older boys up.
Family and personal
As a son of King Lloque Yupanqui, Mayta Cápac was his heir and the father of Cápac Yupanqui.[1] His wife's name is given as Mama Tankariy Yachiy or Mama Cuca.[2]
Mayta's mother was Mama Cora Ocllo Coya. She died in Cuzco.[3]
He had a dark blue helmet and was ugly like his father.
Reign
The chroniclers describe him as a great warrior who conquered territories as far as Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, and Potosí. While in fact, his kingdom was still limited to the valley of Cuzco.
His great military feat may have been the subjugation of another tribe in the valley, the Alcaviza.[citation needed]
In 1134, Mayta Cápac put the regions of Arequipa and Moquegua under the control of the Inca empire.
