He held the athletic director position at Iowa State University from 1983 to 1993, and then served as the Athletics Director at Kansas State University from 1993 until his retirement in 2001.[1]

Urick held the head coaching position at Wabash College, located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, for four seasons, from 1967 until 1970. His career coaching record at Wabash was 11 wins, 22 losses, and 2 ties. This ranks him 13th at Wabash in total wins and 25th at Wabash in winning percentage (.343).[2]
