Maura Johnston

Maura Johnston (born May 28, 1975) is a writer, editor and music critic. She is the editor of Maura Magazine,[1] a weekly online publication, and is the 2013-14 Journalism Fellow at Boston College's Institute For Liberal Arts. [2]

She has contributed to The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Awl, Newsday and Spin, and she has discussed music and popular culture on NPR, WNYC, WBUR and CBC Radio.

Johnston was a founding editor of Gawker Media's Idolator, and she worked for the site until November 2009.[3][4] She was a lead contributor at Popdust.com in early 2011; she became the music editor of the Village Voice [5] in April 2011,[6] and remained in that position until September 2012.

A native of Hicksville, New York, Johnston is a 1997 graduate of Northwestern University, where she majored in Communication Studies. She taught the course "Writing about Popular Music" at New York University from 2010 to 2013.[7]
