Maungatapu is a mountain in New Zealand included in both the Tasman and Marlborough Regions. The mountain is 1014 meters high.[1] The name translates to "sacred mountain" in the Māori language.[2] The mountain was the location of the infamous Maungatapu murders.

The Maungatapu saddle is the main route for electrical power lines from Nelson to Marlborough.[3] The mountain has a rough track which links Pelorus Bridge with the Maitai Valley. This is used for mountain biking, 4WD driving, and motorbikes. For normal cars the track is impassable.
