Matrixx Magixx is a professional basketball team based in Wijchen. The club plays its games in the Dutch Basketball League, the Dutch top league. Home games of the Magixx are played in Sporthal De Arcus. In 2012 the team moved from Nijmegen to Wijchen. Main sponsor of the team is The Matrixx.
History
In 2000 the first-division club was founded as the EiffelTowers Nijmegen and played her games in the Horstacker in Nijmegen. With main sponsor Eiffel, the club was able to sign American players which leaded to fast success. In 2003, the EiffelTowers were the main team in the Netherlands. The team won the Dutch championship and the Dutch NBB Cup, the two big trophies in Holland. In 2005 main sponsor Eiffel decided to move its club to Den Bosch to merge with Tulip Den Bosch. Main reason was the small arena in Nijmegen, which didn't allow the club to play in European competitions.
After the departure of the EiffelTowers, Matrixx Magixx was founded. Main sponsor was club The Matrixx, and the club stayed in the Horstacker. In the first season as Matrixx Magixx, the club won the national NBB Cup and reached the Dutch finals. In the Finals the team would lose to EiffelTowers Den Bosch, the club that adopted Eiffel as its new main sponsor. The following years the team wouldn't reach further than the quarterfinals of the play-offs. In 2007 Magixx won the NBB Cup for the second time. In 2011 the team moved from Nijmegen to Wijchen, because the Horstacker didn't meet the requirements of the Magixx. [1]
