Mary Switzer Building

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mary Switzer Building, in Washington D.C., was originally constructed in 1939 for what was then known as the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. In 1973, the building was rededicated to honor Mary E. Switzer for her years of service to public welfare, and specifically to the championing of people with disabilities. Currently the Mary Switzer Building will be occupied by the Department of Health and Human Services. A $138 million, multi-phase modernization of this 74-year-old federal building is scheduled for completion in 2013, to include a full modernization and the addition of sustainable and energy-efficient upgrades. The preservation and modernization of this historic building was led by GSA Design Excellence Leader, James T. Kienle, FAIA with HNTB Architects, Engineers, & Planners.

The building is located at 330 C Street, SW, Washington, DC.
