Marvelous Alejo (born Margarette Veronica Louise Lim, June 9, 1996) is a Filipino actress and singer. She was a contestant in TV5's reality series Artista Academy.

Biography

Marvelous was born on June 9, 1996. Her father is a former seaman while her mother, Mary Jane Lim, is a house wife.[3]

While studying at the Montessori Academy of Valenzuela as a first year student, she started accepting modelling offers to help her father, who was accused and sued for kidnapping.[3] She was a member of an all-girl pop group, Girls on the Block, which disbanded in 2011.

She cites Lea Salonga as her idol.[4]

"Artista Academy" journey

Eventually, Marvelous decided to join Artista Academy to help her family, and at the same time, to pursue her dream of becoming a star. Her audition number is #0684.[3] She passed the one-time audition held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on June 19, 2012, and went on to become one of the top 16 finalists.[5]

After the show's first "live examination", Alejo surprised everyone after landing third overall, behind Chanel Morales and eventual "Best Actor" Vin Abrenica.[6][7]

She was rushed at a Quezon City hospital after suffering heartburn and over-fatigue, and was not allowed to perform[8] at the show's third "live examination".[9] Later, controversy surfaced after she was retained due to fellow student Jon Orlando's elimination; she was accused of "faking" her sickness.

The September 17 elimination results saw Alejo and three others "kicked out".[10]

Post-"Artista Academy"

She later starred in an independent horror/suspense film, "Mangkukulob", directed by award-winning animator and indie film director Ron Sapinoso. The movie held its premiere on October 20, 2012.[11]

She will also release a full studio album, full of some original OPM songs and some OPM revivals. Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio (who also helped Bea Binene in the latter's debut album under PolyEast) will give his help for Marvelous to finish and, later, release and promote her debut album.[11]

She is in her first year as a veterinary medicine student at De La Salle Araneta University in Malabon City; prior to that, she declined to study as a scholar at University of Santo Tomas due to financial woes.[12]
