MarvelousAQL Inc. (株式会社マーベラスAQL Kabushiki gaisha Māberasu AQL) (MAQL) is a Japanese video game developer and anime producer that was formed in October 2011 by the merger of Marvelous Entertainment, AQ Interactive, and Liveware.[4]

History

The announcement of merging Marvelous Entertainment Inc., AQ Interactive, Inc., Liveware Inc. in to Marvelous AQL Inc. on 2011-10-01 was originally proposed by Marvelous Entertainment Inc., effective on 2011-05-10.[5] The plan would make Marvelous Entertainment Inc. the sole surviving entity after the merger, with Marvelous Entertainment Inc. renamed to Marvelous AQL Inc. on merger day.[6][7]

AQ Interactive was dissolved in 2011-10-01.[8]

On 2011-10-05, MarvelousAQL Inc. announced 15 titles to be released under the MarvelousAQL Inc., including Musical Hakuoki, Logres of Swords and Sorcery, Ninja Nation, Buddy Monster, No More Heroes for Mobage(Android/iOS), Browser Sangokushi NEXT, King of Pirates.[9]

On 2011-12-22, MarvelousAQL Inc. announced the establishment of the overseas business department (海外事業部) with investment from Checkpoint Studios Inc., replacing the global strategy room (グローバル戦略室) dissolved in 2012-01-01.[10]

On 2012-10-25, MarvelousAQL Inc. announced its stock listing on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, effective on 2012-11-01.[11]

On 2013-01-01, MarvelousAQL Inc. established amusement business division (アミューズメント事業部). The company's digital contents business division (デジタルコンテンツ事業部) and amusement contents development division (アミューズメントコンテンツ開発部) were moved into amusement business division, and was renamed to amusement development division (アミューズメント開発部).[12]

On 2013-02-01, MarvelousAQL Inc. established digital contents business division (デジタルコンテンツ事業本部).[13]

Subsidiaries

  • MAQL Europe Limited: On 2011-12-22, MarvelousAQL Inc. announced the establishment of a fully owned MAQL Europe Limited as an online game and mobile content developer and operator in Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom, in April 2012.[14] MAQL Europe, under the brand 'Marvelous Games' has released several mobile titles, including RunBot, Eyes Attack, Puzzle Coaster, Conquest Age and Wurdy.
  • Entersphere Inc. (株式会社エンタースフィア): On 2011-12-21, Marvelous AQL Inc. announced Entersphere Inc. becoming a subsidiary of MarvelousAQL Inc.[15] Entersphere Inc. became a Marvelous AQL Inc. subsidiary on 2012-01-11.[16] On 2013-01-17, Entersphere Inc. its relocation to Shinagawa, Tokyo.[17]
  • Marvelous USA, Inc.: A carryover subsidiary from AQ Interactive, Inc. as XSEED JKS, Inc. On 2013-05-07, MarvelousAQL Inc. announced the renaming of XSEED JKS, Inc. to Marvelous USA, Inc.,[18] after purchasing the Index Digital Media, Inc.'s online business unit and transferred to XSEED JKS, Inc. on 2013-03-31.[19]
  • Artland Inc. (株式会社アートランド): A carryover subsidiary from Marvelous Entertainment Inc.
  • LINKTHINK Inc. (株式会社リンクシンク): A carryover subsidiary from AQ Interactive, Inc.
