Martin & Hall
Martin & Hall was a Providence, Rhode Island based architectural firm in the early 20th century. It was founded by partners Frank W. Martin (1863-1917) and George F. Hall (1866-1928).[1] The firm was founded in February, 1893, when Martin and Hall, both draftsmen in the firm of Stone, Carpenter and Willson, decided to split off and form their own company. However, they took some commissions with them, resulting in a distinct rivalry with their parent firm.[1] When Frank Martin died in 1917, Hall continued on his own.[1] When he died in 1928 he was serving as the supervising architect for the Bank of America Building in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.[1]

Style
Thee three primary styles that Martin & Hall preferred to work in were Châteauesque, Georgian Revival and Collegiate Gothic. Their châteauesque designs were all built in the early years of their existence, and included the Museum of Natural History and a few early house. These buildings were usually marked by intricate stone detailing and copper towers or dormers. The Georgian Revival was their primary style, designing everything from houses to hospitals to office buildings in that style. Notable examples include City Hospital and the Caesar Misch Building. Most of Martin & Hall's buildings in the collegiate gothic style were for schools, including Classical High School.
