Marshalls plc is a United Kingdom based manufacturer of natural stone and concrete hard landscaping products, supplying the construction, home improvement and landscape markets.

The company is also a manufacturer and supplier of water management systems, street furniture and Anti-Terrorism PAS68 items.

Marshalls plc, established in the late 1880s, is headquartered in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and operates its own quarries and manufacturing sites throughout the UK.

In 2011 Marshalls expanded internationally and now operates Marshalls NV in Belgium covering Benelux and Northern France, and has an office in Xiamen, China.

Marshalls plc is traded on the London Stock Exchange. Turnover for the year ended 31 December 2011 was £334.1 million. Profit before tax was £13.7 million, with an operating profit of £16.7 million.

In 2012, Marshalls was acknowledged as a Superbrand for the third year running, and has also been recognised as ‘One to Watch’ in the Best Companies survey.

As well as supplying the domestic market through merchants, Marshalls has worked on a large number of high profile commercial projects including; London’s Exhibition Road, Trafalgar Square and the 2012 Olympic Village.

The Marshalls Register of approved Landscape Contractors and Driveway Installers is a national network of over 1,000 recommended professionals. Although they are not employed by Marshalls, they agree to abide by the Marshalls installation guidelines and are vetted by Marshalls assessors.

Marshalls operates under ‘the triple bottom line’ of Economic, Environmental and Social management, and has received recognition for a number of its initiatives.

At the 2010 Business in the Community (BITC) Awards Marshalls was named National Example of Excellence for Sustainable Marketing and Innovation, as well as being named a Big Tick Winner for Skills in the Workplace, the company was also re-accredited as a Big Tick Winner for ‘Reducing Carbon Impact’ and ‘Ethics in the Supply Chain’, and was Highly Commended in the ‘Work Inspiration’ award.

Marshalls is also constituent member of the FTSE4Good UK Index and is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNCG) framework, having introduced the UNGC’s ‘differentiation programme’ and ‘The Blueprint for Corporate Sustainability Leadership’. As part of their UNGC commitment Marshalls is required to produce an annual Communication on Progress Report (COP) which details their adherence to UNGC principles and its impact in terms of CR and sustainability.

Marshalls was also the first in its sector to join the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and to adopt the ETI Base Code on a progressive basis throughout its supply chains, with specific focus on China and India. This Code is based on International Labour Organisation conventions and is widely acknowledged as a model code of labour practice.
