Marshall Harrison Plumlee (born July 14, 1992) is an American college basketball player who currently plays for Duke University.^[1] He was one of the top-rated basketball recruits in the class of 2011, a McDonald's All-American,^[2] and is the younger brother and former teammate of both Brooklyn Net Mason Plumlee and Phoenix Sun Miles Plumlee.

High school career

Marshall Plumlee played all four years of his high school basketball career at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, and was the only Plumlee brother to win four state championships during his time there. While Marshall played for the Greenies, they had a record of 139 wins and 11 losses.

• Freshman year: As a 6' 8" 175 freshman playing behind his two older brothers, Miles and Mason, Marshall averaged 2.1 points per game^[3] as Christ School finished with a 34–2 record, including a 50–41 victory over Greensboro Day in the North Carolina state championship game.^[4]

• Sophomore year: After growing three inches during the summer between his freshman and sophomore season at Christ School, Marshall began to see more playing time as a sophomore and averaged 3.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. Marshall helped the Greenies win their second straight North Carolina basketball state championship, as Christ School beat Ravenscroft 62–54 in the state championship game.^[5]

• Junior year: With Miles and Mason both playing at Duke, Marshall's role and minutes expanded and he averaged 8.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game as a junior.^[6] The Greenies had another dominant season thanks to Marshall's presence inside, and finished the season at 37–2, while beating Charlotte Christian 78–59 to collect their third straight state championship.^[7]

• Senior year: As a senior Marshall's role expanding even more, as he became the face of Christ School basketball. During Marshall's senior campaign he averaged 11.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.^[8] He helped lead the Greenies to their fourth consecutive state championship and they finished the season at 32–5 after beating Charlotte Christian in the state championship for the second year in a row.^[9]

• Accomplishments: Following his senior season at Christ School, Plumlee was a participant in the 2011 McDonald's All-American Game.^[10] He was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina after averaging 11.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game as a senior ^[11]

Marshall Plumlee decided to follow in his brothers' footsteps and committed to play basketball at Duke University on July 11, 2010.^[12] He chose Duke over Florida, Michigan, Indiana, and Notre Dame.^[13]

Marshall was ranked highly by every major recruiting website; ESPN ranked him as the #36 player in the country,^[14] author Art Chansky called him a borderline top 50 prospect in Duke – Carolina – the Blue Blood Rivalry, the Master Collection,^[15] while Scout.com ranked him as the #68 player in the country, and Rivals.com ranked him as the #79 player in the country,^[13] and .^[16]

Marshall was a part of a five-player recruiting class for Duke in 2011, which also included Austin Rivers, Alex Murphy, Quinn Cook, and Michael Gbinije. Duke's 2011 class is the second-best recruiting class in the entire country according to ESPNU.^[17]

Family

Marshall grew up with brothers Miles and Mason, and they reunited during the 2011–12 basketball season at Duke University; they also have a sister named Madeleine. They were only the third trio of brothers to play on the same college basketball team at the same time.

His parents are Perky (a former Tennessee Tech basketball player) and Leslie Plumlee (a former Purdue women's basketball player who set the school single-game rebound record with 25).^[18][19][20] The two met at a basketball camp during the summer of 1979.^[21] His grandfather Albert "Bud" Schultz played basketball at Michigan Tech (1944), his uncle William Schultz played basketball at Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1971–72), and his uncle Chad Schultz played basketball at Wisconsin-Oshkosh (1983–86).^[22]
