Marks & Clerk is an international firm of patent and trade mark attorneys with an associated intellectual property law firm Marks & Clerk Solicitors. The Legal 500 of 2011 rates it as a top tier firm in the UK in the categories of Patent and trade mark attorneys in The Regions, Patent attorneys in London and Trade mark attorneys in London.[1]

History

Marks & Clerk was founded in 1887 by George Croydon Marks[2] who was joined in partnership by Dugald Clerk a year later. The firm continued to expand via organic growth and mergers with other specialist firms under a standard partnership arrangement. The company merged with the Lloyd Wise Group in 2007, extending its client base into the Asia-Pacific region.[2] In 2009 it became a Limited liability partnership.[3] It celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2012.[4]
