Markaz Rif Dimashq

Markaz Rif Dimashq (Arabic: مركز ريف دمشق Markaz Rif Dimašq) is a Syrian district (mantiqah) administratively belonging to Rif Dimashq governorate. It is a group of municipalities around the City of Damascus (a separate governorate). At the 2004 Census it had a population of 837,804. It surrounds (but does not include) the City of Damascus. Markaz Rif Dimashq has no official administrative centre. With a population of 136,427 inhabitants, the town of Sayyidah Zaynab is the largest city of the district.
Divisions
The district of Markaz Rif Dimashq is divided into six sub-districts or Nāḥiyas (population according to 2004 official census):
- Al-Kiswah nahiyah (ناحية الكسوة): population 112,095.[1]
- Babbila nahiyah (ناحية ببيلا): population 341,625.[2]
- Jaramana nahiyah (ناحية جرمانا): population 114,363.[3]
- Al-Malihah nahiyah (ناحية المليحة): population 56,652.[4]
- Kafr Batna nahiyah (ناحية كفر بطنا): population 123,474.[5]
- Arbin nahiyah (ناحية عربين): population 89,595.[6]
