Mark Sargeant (born 1973) is an English chef, formerly head chef at Gordon Ramsay's Michelin starred restaurant at Claridge's in London.

Early life

Born in Kent,[1] Sargeant grew up in Larkfield, Kent and attended Oakwood Park Grammar School in Maidstone. His first professional kitchen experience came as a part-time cook in the kitchens of the Larkfield Priory Hotel.

Career

Having subsequently trained at West Kent College and worked at several respected restaurants including the role of Chef de Partie at Read's Restaurant in Faversham, Sargeant first worked with Gordon Ramsay at Aubergine in 1998 before spending three years as Sous Chef at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea from 1998 to 2001. He then opened the highly acclaimed Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's where he was Head Chef from 2001 to 2008, earning a Michelin star in 2002.[2] He oversaw the opening of Gordon Ramsay’s pubs including The Narrow. Throughout his 13 years with Gordon Ramsay, Mark was responsible for all of his media activities and co-authored his 12 books, wrote regular columns for the Times Magazine, Olive and BBC Good Food magazines, as well as assisting with the production of his television work both in the UK and abroad. After 13 years working under Ramsay, Sargeant resigned in November 2009 and worked as a consultant for a number of restaurants. He will remain closely associated with Gordon Ramsay Holdings through his continued work on Ramsay's publishing and television work. During this period Mark won young Chef of the year (1996) and Chef of the year (2006)

In June 2011 Mark Sargeant opened two restaurants in the coastal town of Folkestone in Kent. Rocksalt Restaurant and The Smokehouse Fish and Chips.

Mark is also food director to restaurant group Canteen and has been chosen to create exclusive menus for Royal Ascot 2012

Mark’s first cookbook was published in October 2011 "My Kind of Cooking" and is published by Quercus. Mark also regularly appears on the BBC's Saturday Kitchen and Food Network UK shows.

He is a presenter of ITV Breakfast programme Saturday Cookbook which premiered on 14 April 2012.

Television

Sargeant was featured in two fly-on-the-kitchen-wall documentaries about Ramsay: Boiling Point (1998) and Beyond Boiling Point (2000). In May 2004 Sargeant led one of the competition kitchens in the first series of Hell's Kitchen on ITV1 and ITV2. He was also responsible for managing the kitchen in the first series of The F Word programme on Channel 4.
