Mark Anthony Marshall (born 5 May 1987) is an English footballer currently playing for Coventry City.

Career

Marshall's early career saw him come through the ranks at non-League Carshalton Athletic before later joining Grays Athletic and Eastleigh. During the pre-season of 2008–09 he joined Swindon Town on trial,[2] but was originally not offered a deal as Town continued their pursuit of winger Kevin Betsy.[3] However, the move for Betsy failed as the player joined League One rivals Southend and Marshall finally joined Swindon in early August 2008 on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.[4][5]

His debut for Swindon Town came three days later in a defeat away to Cheltenham Town,[6] and continued to make a number of cameo appearances from the substitute bench under manager Maurice Malpas but his involvement with the first team ended at the same time as Malpas' departure in November 2008. New manager Danny Wilson accepted an offer from Bournemouth to take the winger on a one month loan in January 2009, but Marshall rejected the move.[7] He later made a few substitute appearances as the season drew to a close. Marshall's first season at Swindon saw him make 15 appearances in all competition, all but one as a substitute.

On 17 September 2009, Marshall made a loan switch to League Two side Hereford United.[8] The loan deal was later extended on 20 October 2009, keeping Marshall at Hereford until 17 November 2009.[9] He was released by Swindon at the end of the 2009–10 season, and joined Barnet in July 2010. Marshall had a successful first season with The Bees, playing 45 league games and scoring six goals to help Barnet stay in League Two.

On 31 January 2012 it was announced by Barnet that Marshall had been provisionally suspended by the club after testing positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine.[10] The FA later confirmed Marshall would serve a two-year ban from all football activity, which started from 20 January 2012.[11] In May 2012, Marshall was released by Barnet due to the expiry of his contract.[12]

Following the expiry of his ban, Marshall was signed by Coventry City on a short term contract starting 3 February 2014.[13] On 3 February 2014, after impressing manager Steven Pressley on trial, Marshall earned a short-term contract at the club until the end of the 2013–14 season.[14]
