Mario Lopez Valdez (born January 18 of 1957 in Cubiri de la Loma, Sinaloa), is a Mexican businessman and politician, a former member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. He was a senator of the state of Sinaloa from 2006 to 2010 and a mayor of the Ahome Municipality from 2002 to 2004. He is the current Governor of Sinaloa[1] in office since 2011 until 2016.
Background
Mario Lopez Valdez is an accounting graduate of the Technological Institute of Los Mochis (ITLM).
Political career
In 2002, he was elected the mayor of Ahome Municipality with a seat in Los Mochis. The presidency ended in 2004 and in 2005 the Governor Jesus Aguilar Padilla was appointed Secretary of Planning and Development of the state government. He was nominated PRI candidate Sen. Sinaloa formula Francisco Labastida Ochoa, winning the election to serve for the period 2006 to 2012. In the Senate he served as Secretary of the Regional Development Commissions and the Environment, Natural Resources and Fisheries, and as a member of the Agriculture and Water Resources. On March 19, 2010, he resigned his membership of the party to run as candidate for governor of Sinaloa for PAN. On March 23 he requested and was licensed as a senator, and on March 24 was recorded as the PAN candidate for governor. He was elected in the constitutional process of July 4, 2010, receiving the majority of the vote on July 11.
