Mario Buatta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mario Buatta (West Brighton) is an American interior decorator.[1]

He has designed interiors for clients Mariah Carey, Henry Ford II, Malcolm Forbes, Barbara Walters, Nelson Doubleday, Mr. and Mrs. S.I. Newhouse, Charlotte Ford and Billy Joel. He oversaw the interior of the Blair House, Washington DC. Known as the "Prince of Chintz."[2][3][4]

Mario Buatta owns the William H Mason house in Thompson Hill, CT. What was once a beautiful Gothic style home.

The William H. Mason House has been listed as one of Connecticut's "Most Endangered Historic Properties" since 2004. The owner, Mario Buatta, a prominent interior designer from New York bought the house in 1992 and began extensive renovations but then stopped work abruptly in 1996. Since then, the house has been vacant and in continual disrepair. The heat has been off for years, and there are reports of water damage from broken pipes. The only element on the property that has been maintained is a wooden picket fence - but as of 2013, even that has begun to break, peel and rot. Why has Mario let the house go and why he has no concern for the history of this house is beyond anyone. He will not work with the town or respond to the Town of Thompson.

Mario Buatta's most extensive work was Carolands, an historic 92-room Chateau located in the Town of Hillsborough, CA located just south of San Francisco.
