Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre (born 1978 Murdochville, Quebec) is a French Canadian documentary filmmaker and film animator based in Montreal, Canada.

History

Born in Murdochville, Québec, Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre is a French Canadian filmmaker based in Montreal, Canada, who’s animated documentary work shows new approaches in nonfiction storytelling, blurring the lines between documentary and drama.

The award-winning director and film animator has directed several animated documentary films including Post-Partum, McLaren’s Negatives, Passages, The Sapporo Project, Femelles and JUTRA.

Saint-Pierre’s work has claimed international attention being shown in over 150 film festivals as well as international recognition winning many awards. She has been featured in books, magazines as well as on television.

Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre founded MJSTP Films, an animation and documentary production company in 2004 and she has lectured on the art of the animated documentary filmmaking in Europe, Asia and in Canada.

In 2008, she was selected as the international artist in residency for the S-AIR Inter-cross Creative Center in Sapporo, Japan.

She currently lives in Montreal where she spends her time making her independent animated films.

In 2014, the National Film Board of Canada will release her much anticipated short animation JUTRA, an animated documentary portrait on the legendary Québec filmmaker Claude Jutra.

Saint-Pierre is currently directing the short film 'Flocons' that will be released in April 2014 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Norman McLaren.

She is also producing Co Hoedeman new animated film The Blue Marble as well as the artistic director and animator on Patricio Henriquez's new feature film.
