Maria Isabel Lopez is an award-winning Filipina actress in movies, and television shows in the Philippines. She was a former beauty queen-turned-actress. She is Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1982 title-holder.

Career

Maria Isabel "Maribel" Pagunsan Lopez from Cagayan de Oro City, won the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe beauty pageant in 1982. Lopez got controversial when entered the movies. Her first movie Sana, Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon in 1983, starring Hilda Koronel, Lorna Tolentino, Dindo Fernando and Jay Ilagan, directed by Romy Suzara. She was in original cast of Working Girls (1984), a comedy classic big hit, starring Gina Pareno, Rio Locsin, directed by National Artist Ishmael Bernal. She did daring movies' Silip: Daughters of Eve by Elwood Perez (1985), Isla (1985) by Celso Ad Castillo, Hubo Sa Dilim (1985), Mga Nakaw Na Sandali (1986) and Dingding Lang ang Pagitan (1986)among others.

She won the Golden Screen Award Best Supporting Actress Award in Kinatay (2009). Lopez walked in the red carpet in Cannes International Film Festival in France thru award-winning film of Brilliante Mendoza Kinatay (2009).

Lopez became the line producer in Tulak (2009), and HIV: Si Heidi, Si Ivy at Si V (2010). She was in the cast again of modern sequel Working Girls (2010 film) for GMA Films under the helm of Jose Javier Reyes. Lopez performed castaways of GMA Network Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Doubles Showdown (2011-2012) tandem with her daughter, Mara Lopez also an actress in her own right having won Cinema One Originals Best Actress 2012. She played as the mother of Sid Lucero in primetime series of GMA-7 Legacy (2012).

Lopez is a Fine Arts Graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman and is member of the NCCA (National Commission for Culture and Arts) as Secretary of the Committee on Visual Arts for the year 2011-2013.

Personal life

She married to Hiroshi Yokohama but separated, they had two kids. She has a daughter now actress Mara Lopez. Lopez finished Fine Arts course in University of the Philippines.
