Maria Alexandrova (Russian: Мария Александровна Александрова) is a Russian principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, People's Artist of Russia.

Biography

Maria Alexandrova was born in Moscow, Russia and attended Moscow Choreographic Academy there. She won a gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in her hometown and shortly after joined the Bolshoi Ballet. By 2004 she got the experience to become a principal dancer and since then performed in such plays as Sleeping Beauty, and even played leading role characters such as Leah in a play of the same name, and Carmen in Carmen Suite. In 2005 and 2007 she had numerous soloist roles, and during the same years played as Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, Medora in the Le Corsaire and Pupil in the Lesson.[1]

In 2008 she participated in a play called Flames of Paris where she played the role of Jeanne and then in 2009 played in Coppélia as Swanilda, Nikia in La Bayadère and a leading role as Esmeralda in La Esmeralda. The same year she also traveled to Novosibirsk where she appeared again in Swan Lake and Don Quixote, both of which were played at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Her latest appearance in Russia was in an opera called The Queen of Spades in 2010.[1] On a ballet performance in London, Maria got a leg injury while performing Gamzatti and had to leave the stage, without finishing her act.[2]
