Maredudd ap Tudur

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maredydd ap Tudur (died 1406), whose name is anglicized as Meredith Tudor, was a Welsh soldier and nobleman from the Tudor family of Penmynydd and Owen Tudor's father. He supported the 1400 Welsh uprising of his first cousin Owain Glyndŵr.[1]

Both his brothers Rhys ap Tudur (Sheriff of Anglesea) and Gwilym ap Tudur rekindled the uprising in 1402 when they (and 16 other men) entered Conwy Castle, took it over and held it for at least two months. Rhys was executed in 1412 in Chester for his involvement. Maredydd kept his life, but following the demise of Glyndŵr's revolt, much of the Tudor family's lands at Penmynydd and elsewhere were forfeited to the English Crown.

Maredudd married Margaret ferch Dafydd. Margaret was the daughter of Dafydd Fychan, Lord of Anglesey, and his wife, Nest ferch Ieuan.
