Marco Jhonfai Fabián de la Mora (born July 21, 1989) is a Mexican professional footballer who currently plays for Cruz Azul on loan from Guadalajara in the Liga Bancomer MX.[1]

Fabián comes from Guadalajara and is a graduate of the local team Chivas. Fabián made his senior team debut in the Apertura 2007 season in the match against Chiapas, and scored the first goal during the Clausura 2008 tournament against Monarcas Morelia. Fabián took part in the Copa Libertadores in 2010 as Guadalajara reached the finals of the tournament.[2]

Fabián represented Mexico in several youth categories. He was in the initial roster for the 2011 Copa América, but was expelled from the team and suspended for six months along with six other players, for breaking disciplinary codes at their concentration hotel in Quito, Ecuador. In 2012, as a competitor of the Mexico U-23 team, Fabián helped Mexico qualify to the 2012 Summer Olympics and win the 2012 Toulon Tournament, where he was the top scorer. Fabián was part of Mexico's roster who won the Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Club career

C.D. Guadalajara

Fabián was spotted early on and recruited by Guadalajara as a promising talent. He spent ten years in the Chivas youth system, including appearances for their affiliate club Tapatio.

On 10 November 2007, Fabián made his first-team debut in a match against Jaguares de Chiapas in the Apertura tournament wearing jersey no. 33, coach Efrain Flores handing him his opportunity. He scored his first goal for the club in a 6–0 win over Morelia. After the 2010–2011 season, he has a total of 23 goals and 19 assists in 122 official games for Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Fabián scored two goals for Chivas in a friendly match against FC Barcelona on 3 August 2011 during the 2011 World Football Challenge, they won the match 4–1.

Loan to Cruz Azul

On 12 December 2013, Fabian joined Liga MX club Cruz Azul in a year-long loan deal.[3]

International career

Fabián made his international debut in the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship held in Trinidad and Tobago wearing the number 8 and made three appearances for Mexico U-20.

In 2011 he was called up by Luis Fernando Tena to form part in the U-22 National Team, to compete in the Copa America of the same year.

During the Gold Cup 2011 he was named as one of the replacements for the 5 players who tested positive for clenbuterol, but would only be called to join them in an emergency, because he was already in concentration with the U-22 in preparation for the Copa America.[4][5]

He started most of the preparation games and scored a few goals before being suspended for six months, along with seven more players, for breaking disciplinary codes at their concentration hotel in Quito, Ecuador.[6]

After serving his 6 month suspension, Marco made his first senior International cap against Venezuela in a 3–1 win on 25 January 2012.

In 2012 Fabián was called up for the Mexico U-23, participating in the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the 2012 Toulon Tournament, winning the Top Scorer trophy in both tournaments.
