Mapleton, Texas

Mapleton is an unincorporated community in Houston County, Texas.[1] Mapleton is located on Texas State Highway 21 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Crockett. The community was founded around 1924 by T.J. Maples and his family. It was originally known as Stumpville due to the many tree stumps in the area; the Maples family changed the name to Mapleton in the 1950s. As of 2000, its population was 32.[2]
