MapLight is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research organization that reveals and tracks the influence of money in politics in the U.S. Congress as well as in California and Wisconsin. The organization publishes a free public database linking money and politics data sources, including campaign contributions to politicians, how politicians vote on bills, and support and opposition to legislation. MapLight uses an in-house research team in addition to data sources that include the National Institute on Money in State Politics, the Center for Responsive Politics, and Govtrack.
In September 2008, MapLight won a Knight-Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism, Honorable Mention. MapLight was one of five 2008 Webby Award nominees for best politics website. The site also won a James Madison Freedom of Information Award in 2009 and the UN World Summit Award for e-government in 2007.
MapLight is a grantee of the Sunlight Foundation.
