Manvi (Kannada: ಮಾನವಿ } town in Raichur district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is one of the taluks (administrative divisions) in Raichur district. It has Cotton & paddy fields irrigated by water from the Tunga Bhadra left bank canal.
Geography
Manvi is located at 15°59′N 77°03′E / 15.98°N 77.05°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 362 metres (1187 ft).
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Manvi had a population of 37,555. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Manvi has an average literacy rate of 47%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 55%, and female literacy is 39%. In Manvi, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Politics
Many leaders from Manvi participated in Freedom struggle and also during Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation. Leaders like Sri Channabasappa Bettadooru(Mr Bettadur (89) was a social thinker, a Kannada activist, and a folk-lorist. When Urdu and Marathi were the major medium of instruction in this region during the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad, Mr Bettadur worked for the growth of Kannada here. Mr Bettadur has also the distinction of translating the stories of Bankim Chandra Chatterji to Kannada. He had also fought for the unification of Kannada speaking areas. His noted books are "Musuku There", "Amarananda" & "Sallalita sanmarga" (Mr. Bettadur has received "Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagowda Grantha Prashasthi" for his work on Sallalita Sanmarga))and Sri Shanakaragouda Bettadooru were key figures from the region in spreading the message among them and leading from the front

- Current President of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha is Mr.Chamarasa Malipatil ( Younger Son of Late.Sri.Channabasappa Bettadooru)from Bettadooru Situated near Manvi.
Importance
This is hometown of the great Madhva follower and dasa Sri Jagannatha Dasa, who wrote the Harikathamruthasara. It is also famous for Kalmath (Hindu Matt). It has many Hindu deity Sri Chowdeshwari, Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy located on the hill that covers the old town in semi circle and also Sri Annamayya taata self-styled Holy man has many followers. Manvi is famous for its elephant procession during Dasara.
Educational Institutions
Manvi is now the home for many institutions like Ayurvedic college by Kalmatha Group of Institutions,L.M.G.S Manvi convent school, Gandhi memorial school, Sharada and Kakateeya school, B.V.R School are some of the institutions contributing to the education here.
Tourism
- Manvi is also famous the ancient Manvi Fort that is located on the Manvi hill.
- Cheekalaparvi is a village on the banks of Tungabhadra River. Cheekalaparvi is the birthplace of Sri Vijaya Dasaru.
- Kallur archaeological site is a Copper Hoard culture site in Manvi taluk of Raichur. Kallur archaeological site is 20 km Manvi. It is located on Manvi-raichur road.
- Watgal is a prehistoric site. Neolithic grey ware of Brahmagiri fabric and Jorwe fabric has been excavted in the village.[5]
- Rajalabanda is a village on the banks of Tungabhadra River where people go for picnic.
Transport
Manvi is well connected by road to Bangalore, Hubli, Hyderabad, Bagalkot and other major cities. The nearest airport is in major airport is in Hyderabad.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) runs a bus service to other cities and villages. There are also various private bus services.
Railways
Raichur is the nearest railway station to Manvi and Raichur is served by a major rail line and is well connected by trains to all major parts of India such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum, Kanyakumari, Pune, Bhopal and Agra.
