Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI, also known as Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation, or MPIC) is a non-profit Crown corporation based in Manitoba that has provided basic public auto insurance since 1971.[1]
MPI has 22 claim centres, two customer service centres in 13 locations across Manitoba. DVL (Driver and Vehicle Licensing) services are available through 147 agents in 123 communities, including 100 photo licencing agencies, and mobile testing units that service 69 communities. MPI partners with more than 300 independent insurance brokers in Manitoba.[1] Over 1,700 people are employed by MPI.[1]
The basic automobile insurance product offered by MPI is known more informally as Autopac. Basic automobile insurance is compulsory in Manitoba and is only available through Manitoba Public Insurance. Extension insurance products (lower deductibles, increased insurance coverage, etc.) are sold in competition with the private sector.
In 2011, an average working day saw approximately $2.4 million in value of Autopac claims,[2] and 1,109 Autopac claims reported.[2]
The head office of the company is Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
