Manimala is an area in the Kottayam district of Kerala in India. It is situated about 12 kilometers away from the nearest town Kanjirappally.

Geography

The River Manimala is 92 km long and is a tributary of the River Pamba. [citation needed] The area is mostly hilly. Kuranganmala, Varukunnu,Poovatholymala etc are the important hills.Ponthenpuzha forest separates the viillage from Pathanamthitta district.

Manimala is acclaimed for its high literacy rate and access to primary and secondary education within walking distance. Mostly there are three high schools within two kilometers from Manimala town centre.

Demographics

The population is about 10,000, of whom the majority are farmers whose main income comes from rubber plantations. [citation needed]

  • Holy Magi Forane Church manimala (Pazhayapally)- It is a prominent pilgrim center of Kerala. The church is named after the Three wise men of the East/ Three Kings who adored Jesus Christ on his birth. The feast days start by 31st of December every year through 1-7 January of the next year. The procession of the chariot on 5th January evening- in memory of the journey of the three wise men to adore Jesus-from Karikkattoor to the church at Manimala and 'KAZHCHA VEYPPU" in memory of epiphany are attended by more than one lakh people every year.Throughout the procession the chanting " Holy Magy Pray For Us" reverberates the air.
