Manila Elks Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Manila Elks Club is a private club located in Makati City, Metro Manila, the Philippines whose membership is only open to American citizens. It is a local lodge number 761 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, an American fraternal order. It was founded shortly after the 1898 Spanish-American War whose peace treaty required the sale of the Philippines to the United States. It shared a lot next to Luneta Park with the Manila Army and Navy Club until the Philippines gained its independence in 1946. Today, it calls itself "the American club in Manila."
Its 1911 clubhouse, that the club occupied until the 1950s, still exists in Manila and currently houses the Museo Pambata.[1]
