Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd, formerly called Mahindra International,[3] was an Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer formed in 2005 from a joint-venture between Navistar International (49%) of the United States and Indian automobile maker Mahindra & Mahindra (51%).[4]
Mahindra Navistar has started its manufacturing activities for the production of commercial vehicles ranging from 3.5 – 49 tons GVW/GCW. The products of MNAL are currently sold under the trademark of Cabking, Loadking and Tourister.[5]
In December 2012, Navistar announced that they were selling their stake to Mahindra and exiting both joint ventures, Mahindra Navistar and Mahindra Navistar Engines.[6] Mahindra has completed purchase of Navistar's stake in the joint ventures on 12 February 2013.[7] On 4 June 2013, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Limited was changed its name to Mahindra Trucks and Buses Limited.[8] Mahindra Navistar Engines Pvt. Ltd. will also be renamed to Mahindra Heavy Engines Pvt. Ltd.
MaxxForce 7.2 diesel engine
On 7 December 2009, the MaxxForce 7.2 diesel engine was unveiled by Dr. Pawan Goenka of Mahindra & Mahindra and Deepak Kapur of Navistar Truck Group, US.[9] The MaxxForce 7.2 diesel engine, which claims to be the most modern engine in its class, will power Mahindra Navistar’s new range of M & HCV trucks and buses which will be introduced in the Indian market in the January 2010[10]
MaxxForce 7.2 diesel engine is a 7.2 litre in-line six cylinder diesel engine. It has a 4-valve per cylinder technology and features both a mechanical injection system with a Bosch Rotary pump, as well as a high-pressure 1800 bar common rail fuel injection system. The MaxxForce 7.2 diesel engine to be produced in India is also fully compliant with BS III and BS IV emissions standards.[11]
