The name Mahesh (/ma-hesh, mahe-sh/) is short version of a name of Sanskrit origin, Maheshawara, meaning "great ruler". It is a popular name for boys among Hindus as it is one of the names of Shiva. Similar names,though unrelated, are Marsh, Mahir, Malechy, Mehlech, March, Mayhew and Mosheh.
