Maestro (software)
Maestro is a publicly available version of the software used by the NASA Mars Exploration Rover team to view images collected from the rovers and plan the team's daily activities. It is a scaled-down version of the program used to operate the Spirit and Opportunity rovers.[1]
Maestro is written in Java, so it will run on many different platforms including Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, Solaris, Linux, and Irix. The software, along with companion datasets, can be obtained from Maestro Headquarters.
After downloading Maestro, the user is able to view raw images from the rovers, read about the mission, and simulate manipulating a rover in 3D.
The software, also known as Science Activity Planner (SAP), won NASA Software of the Year award in 2004.[2] It is a "...science visualization and planning tool for the MER Mission."[2]
