Madhar are people of a clan mainly found in the Punjab state of India, though some of them are found in the states of Rajasthan and Haryana as well. They are predominantly Ravidassias.
History
Madhar's trace their roots to the Caucasian region of central Asia. It is believed that they came to India around 3000 BC and settled in the regions Sindh and Punjab of Pakistan and Punjab of India. Since this area was situated at the frontier of ancient India, therefore Madhars had fought many battles against the invading looters coming to India during lateral times.
Distribution
Most of their villages are situated in Doaba and Malwa regions of the present day Punjab of India. Some of their villages include Beas Pind, Sarmastpur, Dhogri, Dhandwar in Distt. Jalandhar. Garhi Matto, Surapur in Distt. Nawanshahar. Gosslaan, Ballamgarh, Amargarh, Ghanaur, Bamaal, Jahangir, Jattimajra, Baddrukhan and Dhuri Town in Distt. Sangrur. Latour in Distt. Fatehgarh Sahib. Some Madhar families are found in Kaithal district of Haryana. There are many Madhar villages in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan which are yet to be documented.
