Madhan Karky Vairamuthu is an Southindian lyricist, research associate, software engineer, and film dialogue writer. He is the son of poet and lyricist Vairamuthu. He is also an assistant professor of computer science at the College of Engineering, Guindy.[1]

Early life and education

Madhan Karky is the eldest son of notable lyricist Vairamuthu and Ponmani.

He completed his bachelor's degree in computer engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy in 2001. He further completed postgraduate studies and PhD in information technology at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in 2004.[1]

While studying in High School, he participated in Road Safety Patrol and was the President of the Young Students Society.

He worked as a technical volunteer for the Indian Science Congress and National Children's Science Congress in 1998 held at Anna University, Chennai, India. During 1997-1998, he was a Navy Cadet in National Cadet Corps. He was the course organiser for the Multimedia Workshop conducted as a part of the activities of RCILTS-Tamil at Anna University in 2001. He served as Executive Member, Secretary and Webmaster for Computer Society of Anna University during the years of undergraduate study. As the member of Computer Society of Anna University, he worked with Lions Club, Chennai to conduct computer awareness courses to the State School teachers in 2001. He was the event organiser of ABACUS2001 in Anna University in 2001.

He was in the founding committee and member of the Indian Students Association at University of Queensland in 2003. He served as the Vice President of the Tamil Association of Queensland for 2006-2007. During the period, he had organised various cultural and community events in Australia on a larger scale for charity. He was a member of Australian Red Cross and Film Clubs in Brisbane. He was a secretary of Tamil Brisbane as well, providing induction services to visitors of Brisbane and conducting community activities.

Career

Madhan Karky became a lyricist for the 2010 science-fiction film Enthiran, penning the song "Irumbile Oru Irudhaiyam". For the same film, he assisted director S. Shankar in writing the film's dialogues, especially assisting with technical terminology. However Kanden Kadhalai (2009), in which he had written the song "Ododi Poren", became his first release. For his work in Enthiran, he was awarded the Vijay Award for Best Find of the Year. He later went on to work as lyricist in the 2011 films, Engeyum Kaadhal, Ko and 180. The song "Enamo Aedho", a song from the Ko's soundtrack, also became popular for its lyrics.[2] His other works include high budget films including, A. R. Murugadoss's 7aam Arivu in which he has also penned a song in Chinese language among the soundtrack[3] and S. Shankar's Nanban. Madhan has penned songs in Portuguese for 180 and in Mandarin for 7aam Arivu and also written lyrics in 15 different languages for a duet song in Nanban. Madhan Karky went on to pen three songs for the next highly anticipated Mani Ratnam movie "Kadal".

Interests

Apart from penning songs and working in college, Karky has once told in an interview[4] that photography is his passion since childhood and he has a huge collection of pictures he had clicked since his young age.
