Madeleine Isaksson

Madeleine Isaksson (born 1956) is a Swedish composer.

Biography

Madeleine Isaksson studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm from 1979 to 1987. She received a diploma as a piano and ensemble teacher after studying under Gunnar Hallhagen, and then studied composition under teachers including Gunnar Bucht and Sven-David Sandström (composition), Pär Lindgren (electroacoustic music), Arne Mellnäs (instrumentation), and Bo Wallner (music theory and analysis). In 1987 she lived in Amsterdam for a year of studies with the composer Louis Andriessen. In the early 1990s, she moved to France, where she lives and works near Paris.[1][2]

Isaksson has composed for solo, duo, trio, quartet, ensemble, orchestra and vocal music. Selected works include:

  • Fibres (2004) - alto flute, viola, 10-str. guitar
  • Failles (Gaps) (2003) - trombone, recorder (tenor, sopranino), cello
  • Axis (2002) - violin (with whisper/voice), percussion: (3 bongos, crotales, glsp, bass timp. with cymbal)
  • Ambo (2001) - alto flute, violin
  • Blad över blad / Feuille sur feuille (2000) - soprano, mezzo, cello
  • Rum (Rooms) (1999–2000) - alto flute, bass clarinet, cello, percussion
  • Ici est ailleurs (Here is somewhere else) (1998/2001) - flute, violin, viola, cello, double bass, percussion
  • Andelek (Spirit Game) (1997) - saxophone quartet: sopranino, 2 sopranos, baritone
  • Fästen o fall (Handholds and downfalls) (1995–96) - chamber orchestra: double wind quintet, bass clarinet, 17 strings
  • Å svävare (Oh, Hoverer) (1993–1995) - soprano, mezzo, baritone, viola, cello
  • inné (1993) - flute, oboe, saxophone (clarinet), horn, bassoon, violin, viola, cello, double bass
  • Tillstånd - Avstånd (States - Distances) (1992) - 15 Instruments
  • Som om (As if) (1991) - alto flute, bass clarinet, viola, cello, double bass, percussion
  • Tjärnöga - Ö blå (The eye of the Lake - Blue Island) (1990) - cor solo
  • Stråkvåg (String-wave) (1990) - string quartet
  • Capriola (1989) - baritone saxophone, trombone
  • Därimellan (In between) (1987) - voice (mezzo-soprano), electric guitar
  • Löp (Run) (1986) - soprano, mezzo-soprano, accordion, 5 percussions
  • Tång (Seaweed) (1984) - English horn, basson, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, harp, harpsichord, cello, double bass
  • Three Hagliden-songs (1982) - soprano, clarinet, piano[3]
