History

Macleod station opened on 1 March 1911.[1] The line was the junction of the short Mont Park branch line from 1911 to 1964. It was upgraded to a Premium Station in 2001. On 24 March 2011, X'Trapolis car 955M derailed after overshooting the back platform, due to low adhesion conditions. The train went approximately three metres past the end of the platform and smashed into a fence, no reports of injury were recorded. Earlier that day, another train lost power and was stuck on the middle of the bridge above Burgundy Street, Heidelberg. Delays were up to 30 minutes for people going the Eltham way, and 40 minutes going the Flinders Street way.
