M.Pire (Korean: 엠파이어; pronounced as 'empire'), is a seven member South Korean idol group, signed under Benjamin Entertainment and CMG Chorok Stars. The group first performed at the "2013 Dream Concert" with six members: Taehee, Yooseung, Haru, Jerry, Kangon, and Red. Shortly after, Kangon left to join his former group M.Perror and was replaced with new member T.O.[1] The group officially debuted with their new six-member line-up in August. Seventh member Lumin, formerly known as LeeU of F.Cuz, joined the group in October. The group's comeback with all seven members is scheduled for October 30 with the release of a single album.[2] The current members include: Taehee, Lumin, Seo Yooseung, Haru, Red, T.O and Jerry. The name 'M.Pire' combines the words 'music' and 'vampire', signifying the need for the group to live off of music.[3] M.Pire’s fandom name is Muse (뮤즈), an acronym standing for: Mind, Understand, Special and Encourage.

History

Pre-debut

Seo Yooseung and Taehee (former stage name of Jino) were initially part of BB.BBOYS, a male Korean pop trio, that debuted in 2011.[4][5] Their title song We Will Be Okay was composed by Oh Se Hoon and featured G.NA. The group released a mini-album 'First Album' in 2011 and officially disbanded in 2012. Seo Yooseung and Taehee became trainees under Benjamin Entertainment and were rumored to have formed a 4-member group with Haru and eKang. New member Jerry was unofficially revealed in February via SNS, while eKang became inactive and silently exited the group in April.[6] On May 1, Benjamin Entertainment revealed the official group name 'M.Pire' along with the addition of a new member Kangon. The group was also stated to perform at the "2013 Dream Concert" as a six-member group, ahead of their official debut; however the line-up then only included five members: Seo Yooseung, Taehee, Haru, Jerry and Kangon. Red was later revealed as the sixth-member and the group performed their title track "We Can't Be Friends" at the "2013 Dream Concert" held May 11 at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul.[7] A few weeks after the concert, it was revealed that Kangon had left M.Pire to join his former group M.Peror. T.O joined the line-up as the sixth member and the group had their official debut August 1, 2013. All six members went through 3 years of hardcore training prior to their debut.[8]

2013: We Can't Be Friends, On My Mind

The group was scheduled to debut in June, but officially debuted on August 1, 2013 with their title track "We Can't Be Friends", a hip-hop dance song, composed by Hong Sung Min and written by Ddori Jang Gun.[9] Their debut stage was on Mnet's "M Countdown".

On the October 16th broadcast of Channel A's 'Star Family Song' former member LeeU of F.Cuz revealed that he had joined the rookie group and changed his stage name to Lumin.[10][11] On October 27 an audio teaser of the song ‘On My Mind’ was released through Benjamin Entertainment's Official YouTube account. The song was written and composed by JYJ's Kim Jaejoong as a gift to the group.[12] It was also revealed that member Yooseung assisted in writing the rap verse for "On My Mind".[13] The official comeback track and title song of their second single album "New Born" is "Kkadak Kkadak".[14] M.Pire will kick off promotions for their fall comeback with a performance on M! Countdown on October 31.
