Daniel Pedreira Senna Pellegrine better known by his stage name MC Daleste (born in Penha, São Paulo, Brazil, 30 October 1992 - died Paulínia, 7 July 2013), was a funk ostentação singer, songwriter and rapper. He was fatally shot in the abdomen while performing during a free show in Campinas, São Paulo[1] before a crowd of four thousand people.[2] He died later the same day in Paulinia's City Hospital.[3][4][5] Police in Campinas continue to investigate the shooting with approximately one hundred testimonials, videos, and photos received. A number of pictures taken from the stage have been deemed fundamental to the case by an investigator.[6][7]

The Brazilian rap scene has turned violent recently with a number of MCs being killed including Felipe Boladão, MC Careca, MC Primo, and MC Duda Marapé, in addition to Daleste.[2][5] Rapper MC Neguinho Caxeta miraculously survived after being sprayed by bullets.[2] There are speculations that vigilante gangs, referred to in Brazil as "grupos de extermínio" or "milicia," are affiliated with ex-police officers and are responsible for the murders of Brazilian MCs notorious for anti-cop rhetoric in their songs.[2]
