Mühledorf is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

History

Mühledorf is first mentioned in 1364 as Mülidorf.[3]

Geography

Mühledorf has an area of 2.3 km2 (0.89 sq mi). Of this area, 86.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 6.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 6.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.4%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[4]

The entire municipality and the village of Mühledorf are located on a terrace above the Gürbetal (Gürbe valley) and stretching to Gerzensee lake.

Demographics

Mühledorf has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 258.[1] As of 2007, 2.1% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 26.2%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (97.3%), with French being second most common ( 1.1%) and Rhaeto-romance being third ( 1.1%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 45.2% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (18.7%), the Green Party (12.2%) and the SPS (10.9%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 20.2% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 67.8% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 12%. In Mühledorf about 88.9% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Mühledorf has an unemployment rate of 0.07%. As of 2005, there were 41 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 13 businesses involved in this sector. 8 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 3 businesses in this sector. 26 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 4 businesses in this sector.[4] The historical population is given in the following table:[3]
