Mërgim Hereqi (Serbian: Мергим Херећи, Mergim Hereći) (born 12 November 1992) is a Norwegian footballer of Kosovan-Albanian descent, who has represented Norway at international youth level, and is playing for Birkebeineren in the 2. Divisjon.
Career
Hereqi was born in Pristina, Yugoslavia,[3] but moved to Norway and began his career with Vindbjart FK. In 2006 he joined the youth-ranks of Strømsgodset IF.[4] In the spring 2007 he was loaned out to the fifth-tier team SBK Drafn, before he moved on to the third-tier team Mjøndalen IF in the summer 2007.[5] After the two loan spells he moved back to Strømsgodset, and made his professional debut on 21 June 2009, when he came on as a substitute in the Tippeligaen-match against Tromsø.[6][7]
In March 2010, Heregi left Strømsgodset[8] and signed for Lillestrøm SK.[9] After one year at Lillestrøm, where he only played for the reserve-team, he signed for FK Tønsberg on 20 December 2010.[10] On 7 June 2011 announced his movement to FK Ørn-Horten[11] and played his debut on 14 June.[12] On 20 January 2013 he left Ørn-Horten and signed with Birkebeineren.[13]
International career
Hereqi scored two goals in four matches for the Norwegian under-15 team in 2006 before he played five matches for the under-16 team the next year.[14] He made his debut for the Norway national under-17 football team in summer 2008,[15] in the Qualification for the UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship on 24 September 2008 against Ukraine.[16] He played a total of five matches for the under-17 team, scoring one goal.[14] Hereqi has declared to Albanian media in April 2008 that his dream was to receive a call-up from Albania.[17]
