Lydia Marie Hearst-Shaw (born September 19, 1984) is an American actress, fashion model, columnist, socialite and heiress to the publishing fortune established by her maternal great-grandfather William Randolph Hearst.[1] The 2008 Michael Awards recognized her as their Model of the Year.[2] She was also given the award of the Best International Supermodel in Madrid on 12 November 2008.[3]

Career

Modeling

Hearst-Shaw has modeled for magazines such as Vogue internationally with numerous covers, Harper's Bazaar, GQ, Elle, and fashion designers such as Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Prada, DKNY [4] to name a few, as well as Puma and appeared in Puma's French 77 collection. In 2008 she posed in a range of retro-style satin and silk lingerie for Myla's autumn and winter collection.[5] She also appeared topless in the May 2009 issue of GQ Italia,[6] and Vogue as well as the images shot by famed photographer Terry Richardson.

Journalism

Hearst-Shaw was a columnist for Page Six magazine, which comes in the Sunday edition of the New York Post. She appeared on the cover of the 30 September 2007 issue of the magazine.

Acting

Hearst-Shaw appeared in the CW hit show Gossip Girl as Lily van der Woodsen's posh interior decorator, Amelia, in the Season 1 finale. She was also featured in Tara Subkoff’s short fashion film for BeBe in 2008 as a paparazzi stalked starlet.[7] In 2009 she starred in an independent film called The Last International Playboy, written and directed by Steve Clark.[8] She also appeared in Miles Fisher's 2009 music video "This Must Be The Place".[9] Lydia is co-starring in two films set to be released in 2012; "Two Jacks" written and directed by Bernard Rose where she costars with Sienna Miller and Danny Huston, and "Crimson Tear" directed by William Birrell where Lydia costars with Australian actor Luke Bracey.[10]

Reality TV

Hearst-Shaw will serve alongside Anne Vyalitsyna and Naomi Campbell as a supermodel coach for the upcoming second edition of Oxygen's The Face modeling reality competition. The season is scheduled to premiere on Oxygen in early 2014. [11]

Biography

A daughter of kidnapping victim and publishing heiress Patricia Campbell Hearst and Bernard Shaw, she was born and raised in Wilton, Connecticut. Her father, who was her mother's bodyguard before the couple's marriage, was later the head of security for the Hearst Corporation[1] and died December 17, 2013.[12]

Since graduating from Wilton High School she attended Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut where she majored in communications technology before being discovered by fashion photographer Steven Meisel. Her first modeling assignment was for the cover of the Italian edition of Vogue.[1]

Her professional name is Hearst, rather than Hearst-Shaw, which is on her birth certificate.[1]

After shooting for Puma's French 77 collection, for a limited edition book called "The Last Playboys Wear Puma", Hearst-Shaw teamed up in a creative partnership between Puma and Heatherette to design a high-end limited edition handbag. She has continued her partnership with Puma and is set to release a New Holiday Collection and a line of athletic gear.[13]

Relationships and personal life

In 2003, Hearst was in a relationship with Oliver Hammond,[14][15] heir to the Anneberg Media empire.[16] Subsequently, she was in an eight-month relationship with actor Justin Bartha, ending in August 2007.[17][18] In January 2008, Hearst began dating musician Joe Barney, who was an old high school classmate.[19][20] Following their breakup, Hearst dated Matt Rains, brother of Heatherette designer Traver Rains.[21] As of December 2010, she was in a relationship with actor Jeff Goldblum.[22] In June 2011, the pair reportedly split due to a significant age difference.[22]
