Career

Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire,[1] Waterfall started his career with Barnsley and was a regular for their youth and reserve teams during the 2007–08 season.[3] After being released he signed for League One team Tranmere Rovers in July 2008.[4] He made his debut after coming on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, away to Grimsby Town, in a 2–0 defeat in the League Cup on 12 August.[5] He made his first start in a 1–0 victory over Accrington Stanley in the Football League Trophy on 2 September.[6]

He joined Conference National side Altrincham on loan on 14 October and made one substitute appearance in a 2–0 defeat to Weymouth.[7][8] He was released by Tranmere at the end of the 2008–09 season in May 2009.[9] He was handed a week's trial at Oxford United in July,[10] and after not being offered a contract he started a trial with York City.[11][12] He came on as a second half substitute for York in a pre-season friendly against Bradford City and he was not offered a contract by York.[13]

Waterfall signed for Conference North team Ilkeston Town on 1 August following a trial and he finished the 2009–10 season with 38 appearances and two goals.[14][15] He signed for Gainsborough Trinity in May 2010.[16]

Following three years with Trinity, Waterfall and Terry Hawkridge followed ex Blues chairman Peter Swann to Scunthorpe United.
