Lucy is a 2014 English-language French-produced science fiction/superhero film directed, written, and produced by Luc Besson. It will be released on 8 August 2014.[1] It stars Scarlett Johansson,[2] Morgan Freeman[3] and Choi Min-sik.[4]

Plot

Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), a woman living in Taipei, Taiwan, works as a drug mule. The drug she inadvertently takes goes into her system, changing her into a metahuman.[5] She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can't feel pain and other discomforts.[2]

Filming started in September 2013, and will take place for the most part at the Cité du Cinéma, the brand new megastudio located on the outskirts of Paris.[8]

According to EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert, this film will have the highest budget in the history of EuropaCorp. He also stated that Luc Besson has never put so many special effects in a movie.[3]

On 5 September, scenes were shot at the cliffs of Étretat in northern France.[9]

Filming in Taipei, Taiwan began on 21 October and lasted for 11 days.[10][11][12] One of the Taipei locations that Besson filmed at was Taipei 101, the world's fifth tallest skyscraper.[7]

On 23 October, The Hollywood Reporter stated that filming has commenced with Scarlett Johansson and that Luc Besson was enraged by all the media attention the shoot was getting that day.[7]

Rumors circulated that implied Besson was so frustrated with the constant disruptions that he considered leaving Taipei to film someplace else. Meeting reporters in Taipei a day after he finished shooting the Taiwan part of the film, Besson blasted the media. "We don't want pictures with new dresses of Scarlett," he said. "Sometime I lost a bit of my concentration because I'm bothered by that." "Shooting at nighttime was a nightmare" because of constant paparazzi intrusions, he said. Besson singled out two unnamed agencies from Hong Kong for special condemnation, but labeled as incorrect news reports that he wanted to leave Taiwan early to register his disapproval of their actions.[13]
