Lucas Ariel Ocampos[1] (born 11 July 1994 in Quilmes, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine footballer who plays as a winger for Monaco.
Career
Ocampos began playing football in Quilmes at the age of six where he first played as a striker. After participating the Youth America's Cup, Ocampos was signed by River Plate.[2]
River Plate
On 16 August 2011, aged 17 years, two months and five days, Ocampos made his first-team debut for River Plate against Chacarita Juniors. His debut goal came in his second match on 20 August 2011 against Independiente Rivadavia.[3] He soon established himself in the starting eleven and in January 2012 was named in FIFA's 13 Players to watch that year.[4]
In the 2011–2012 season, Ocampos would score seven goals and providing five assists in thirty-eight games as the club was promoted back to Primera división after a one-year absence. The following season, Ocampos made his last appearance for River Plate in their opening game, a 2–1 defeat to Club Atlético Belgrano.
Monaco
On 6 August 2012 Ocampos signed for French Ligue 2 side Monaco for a reported fee of approximately €15 million.[5] After the move, Ocampos says he believes he made a good decision in joining Monaco; and that he faced no pressure with his price tag.[6]
Ocampos made his Monaco debut on 31 August 2012, coming on as a substitute for Emir Bajrami in 2–1 loss against Le Havre, the club's first loss of the season. He scored his first goal for the club in the third round of Coupe de la Ligue as Monaco beat Valenciennes 4–2.[7] On 18 January 2013 Ocampos scored his first league goal and recorded an assist for Gary Kagelmacher in a 2–0 win over Istres.
Style of Play
Ocampos is known for his powerful pace and accurate dribbling. He is also blessed with great technique and has a strong shot with both feet. He has good heading accuracy and his height makes him a constant aerial threat in the box.[8]
