Loyd Auerbach

Loyd Auerbach is a parapsychologist and a field investigator in psychic phenomena. He is also a professional mentalist and psychic entertainer, performing as Professor Paranormal before private and corporate groups. He served as President of the Psychic Entertainers Association for four terms from 2001-2005 and has served on the Board of Directors of that organization since mid-2006.

He is the creator and principal instructor of the Parapsychological Studies Certification Program at HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA which is available for on campus students and for distance learning..

Auerbach is on the faculty of Atlantic University, teaches one online graduate course Principles of Parapsychology," and is developing others.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology from Northwestern University (1978).

Auerbach is the Director of The Office of Paranormal Investigations , and the author of several books on the paranormal (see list below). His first and best known book was ESP, Hauntings, and Poltergeists : A Parapsychologist's Handbook (ISBN 978-0-446-34951-2, 1986). That book was named the "Sacred Text" on ghosts by Newsweek in August 1996. He was the Public Information and Media Consultant to the American Society for Psychical Research in 1982-83 and on the Core Faculty of the Graduate Parapsychology Program at John F. Kennedy University. (Note: This academic program no longer exists). He was a columnist for Fate magazine from 1991 through 2004. He is currently on the Advisory Board of the Rhine Research Center.

Auerbach's most recent book, co-authored by the late psychic Annette Martin, is The Ghost Detectives' Guide to Haunted San Francisco (2011, ISBN 978-1-61035-007-5). Prior to that, his books are A Paranormal Casebook: Ghost Hunting in the New Millennium (2005, ISBN 978-1-933177-04-5). Prior to that, his books are Hauntings & Poltergeists: A Ghost Hunter's Guide (2004, ISBN 978-1-57951-072-5), Ghost Hunting: How to Investigate the Paranormal (2004, ISBN 978-1-57951-067-1), Mind Over Matter (1996, ISBN 978-1-57566-047-9), Reincarnation, Channeling and Possession: A Parapsychologist's Handbook (1993, ISBN 978-0-446-36333-4) and Psychic Dreaming: A Parapsychologist's Handbook (1991, ISBN 978-0-446-36056-2), in addition to his first book.

Auerbach's media exposure includes appearances on paranormal-related programs for the Discovery Channel, the Travel Channel, The Learning Channel, A&E, the History Channel, the Sci Fi Channel and TechTV. In addition, he has appeared on hundreds of local and national radio programs, and television programs such as The View,Larry King Live, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Criss Angel: Mindfreak, Late Night with David Letterman, and Popular Mechanics for Kids. He's also been featured in the book Encyclopedia Horrifica.

Auerbach is a professional speaker, working mainly on the college circuit. He frequently consults with journalists and TV production personnel regarding stories and programs on the paranormal. In addition, as of 2010, he is a professional chocolatier, conducting guided chocolate tasting presentations and producing chocolate under his brand Haunted By Chocolate.
