Louisiana Highway 478 (LA 478) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves Natchitoches Parish. It spans 20.93 miles (33.68 km).

Route description

From the west, LA 478 begins in the community of Vowels Mill and heads in an eastern direction through the Kisatchie National Forest. It crosses LA 117 and LA 120 before meeting I-49. The highway is unique in that it is paired with a parish road, Natchitoches Parish Route 620, for a distance at the interchange with I-49, and is even signed as running concurrently together.

After meeting I-49, LA 490 ends at an intersection with LA 1, about two miles north of Natchez. LA 478 is cited as having one of the roughest surfaces of any state highway, with no striping or shoulders between I-49 and LA 1.

LA 478 is an undivided, two-lane road for its entire route. Before the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering, LA 478 was signed as State Route 609 from Vowels Mill to State Route 39 (LA 117), and State Route 432 from LA 117 to LA 1.
