Route description
From the east, LA 22 begins at an intersection with U.S. Highway 190 in Mandeville. LA 22 then runs due west, intersecting LA 21 in Madisonville.LA 22 is prevailingly an undivided, two-lane highway. At is eastern terminus with US 190, LA 22 is four-lane divided and shortly goes to five lanes undivided (with a center turn lane) and then three lanes undivided (two-way traffic with a center turn lane). The center turn lane disappears east of Madisonville, and the highway is two lane until Ponchatoula, through which it is four or five lanes undivided. West of Ponchatoula, LA 22 narrows to two lanes but retains broad shoulders to Springfield, from which it is a two-lane road for the remainder.
