Louisiana Highway 139 (LA 139) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves Morehouse and Ouachita Parishes. It spans 20.11 miles (32.36 km). It is known as the Old Bastrop, Old Monroe, and Lincoln Roads.

Route description

LA 139 is a mix of undivided four-lane highway, undivided two-lane highway, and divided one-way streets during its route.

From the south, LA 139 splits at a heavily used intersection from US 80, also known as Desiard Street. LA 139 travels in a northeastern direction as an undivided four-lane highway, passing through small communities until it meets LA 594, known as the Swartz-Fairbanks Road. LA 139 then becomes a two-lane road, passing through hills and rural areas before meeting LA 134 east, which heads east to meet LA 137 in Oak Ridge. The new LA 134/139 continues north until LA 134 west splits off, going to the small town of Sterlington.

LA 139 continues north, crossing LA 554, an east-west route connecting Sterlington with Collinston. Further north, LA 139 is joined by LA 593, a north-south highway connecting Collinston with Bastrop. LA 139 ends about a mile north of joining LA 593, at an intersection with US 165, US 425, and LA 2.

History

From its earliest inception as State Routes 14 and 204 prior to the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering, LA 139 has been regarded as one of the main north-south routes between Monroe and Arkansas, and also briefly carried US 165. Since 1989, the section between Bastrop and the Arkansas state line has been replaced by US 425, cutting off almost 17 miles of its route.
