Louise Lightner Post (born December 7, 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri) is the co-vocalist and guitarist for alternative rock group Veruca Salt. She is a graduate of Barnard College, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Musical career
Post formed the alt-rock band Veruca Salt in the early 1990s along with Nina Gordon, Steve Lack and Jim Shapiro. Veruca Salt released two successful albums, American Thighs (1994) and Eight Arms to Hold You (1997), prior to splitting up.
Post reformed the band and released two more studio albums with different line-ups: 2000's Resolver and 2006's IV.
She performed a rendition of her song "Spiderman '79" for the independent film The Still Life, in which she also had a small role.[1] The song was performed with Dizzy Reed of Guns N' Roses fame.
During her career, Post has collaborated with several indie rock acts, including The Drowners and Frogpond.
Personal life
Post was best friends with Veruca Salt bandmate Nina Gordon, but Gordon left the band following acrimonious personal disagreements between the two in the late 1990s. Post also cited creative differences as a reason for the split.[2][3] The next Veruca Salt album, 2000's Resolver, included lyrics that implied hostility towards Gordon. The two had apparently reconciled by 2003 and were friendly once more "but not at the same intensity."[2][4] In October 2006, Post complimented Gordon's pop music.[3] February 2013 it was announced that the original line up of Veruca Salt have gotten back together with plans to tour as well as enter the studio to record new music.
Post was previously in a relationship with Foo Fighters front man/former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, which ended in a painful break-up. During a combative, inebriated performance in Melbourne in 1997, she announced that Grohl had left her for actress Winona Ryder.[5] This was referenced in the lyrics for 'Disconnected': "It's kind of scary when your lover leaves you for a movie star".
After Beyond records went under (Resolver), Post once again reformed Veruca Salt with guitarist Stephen Fitzpatrick. In 2005, the band toured and released an E.P titled "Lords of Sounds and Lesser Things." After wrapping the 2005 tour, the band finally released their fourth full album titled "IV" (four) in September 2006.
Post and Courtney Love were friends[5] and one-time musical collaborators: "I moved to L.A., and I was in a band with Courtney Love for about five minutes."[3] Post said, "I felt like I needed a bath afterwards," in regards to her unavailing collaboration with Love during an interview for Capital Chaos TV in 2006.
On March 30, 2008, Post married boyfriend Tony Parks in Vegas. Post had been dating Parks since 2001. Parks fronts another band called The Brontosaur.
In 2008, Post was one of the contributors to Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna's book Cherry Bomb.[6][7]
In January 2010, Post announced she was pregnant with her first child. Louise and Tony Parks announced the birth of their baby Lila on April 28, 2010.
