Lorena Gonzalez is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. She is a Democrat representing the 80th district, encompassing southern San Diego. Prior to being elected to the state assembly, she was the secretary-treasurer and CEO of the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
Gonzalez was previously a candidate in the 2005 special election for District 2 of the San Diego City Council. Gonzalez received the second most votes in the special primary and advanced to a runoff against Kevin Faulconer. However, Faulconer defeated Gonzalez in the second round of voting by a margin of 724 votes out of 29,448 cast.[1]
