The Lopez Symphonic Band enjoys a distinguished past, experiencing success from its very first year of existence. Division I ratings have been awarded to the Symphonic Band every year at TMEA Concert and Sight Reading Contest. In the spring of 1995, the ensemble placed 1st Runner-Up, Class AAAA, in its first submission for TMEA Honor Band Competition. Lopez placed 1st Runner-Up in the next three submission years before winning 1st Place In the 2003 TMEA Honor Band Competition. The school moved to Class AAAAA in 2007 and, in its first year of competition, placed 11th at the state level. In 2010, the band improved to 5th place at the state hearing. This success is unmatched by any other school in the Rio Grande Valley as the Lopez Symphonic Band has advanced to the state level of the Honor Band Competition on every submission.
The Concert Band has also been awarded the sweepstakes award (Division I rating in both sight reading and concert portions) at every UIL contest attended.
